DITCHING THE DIAGNOSIS
WHAT IS NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?
Nutritional Therapy is the idea that health can be achieved through a holistic and bio-individual approach to nutrition and lifestyle. It is a whole-person approach that accounts for mental and physical health. It takes into consideration the body's natural intelligence to heal itself and find the root cause of symptoms.
WHAT DOES NUTRITIONAL THERAPY INVOLVE?
It involves a bio-individual foundational approach to wellness and focuses on the importance of eating properly prepared and nutrient dense whole foods paired with a well balanced lifestyle. It promotes healthy changes to your diet, stress reduction, and lifestyle support.
WHAT ARE THE FOUNDATIONS OF NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?
Nutritional Therapy works to balance digestion, blood sugar regulation, mineral balance, and dietary fats along with lifestyle support from sleep, stress, and movement or exercise.
WHO DOES NUTRITIONAL THERAPY BENEFIT?
Nutritional Therapy helps anyone, however, it can be very beneficial to those individuals experiencing:

Digestive issues- IBS, IBD, gastritis, gas, bloating, heartburn, GERD
Psychological distress- depression, anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, Autism, PMS
Adrenal Fatigue
Hormone Imbalances- menopause, coming off birth control, infertility
Autoimmune conditions
Metabolic conditions- high blood pressure, high blood sugar and type II diabetes, high cholesterol
Weight management and obesity
Food sensitivities and intolerances
Inflammation and arthritis
Headaches and migraines
HOW DOES DITCHING THE DIAGNOSIS RELATE TO NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?
When our bodies become unbalanced, we develop symptoms which doctors use to diagnose. By focusing on the foundations and our body's intelligent design, our bodies come back into balance and symptoms improve, thus removing the diagnosis.  For example, if you  have heartburn and start taking medicine, the symptoms might go away, but if you stopped taking the medication, the heartburn would return.  Nutritional Therapy attempts to address the underlying cause of heartburn, which could be dehydration, insufficient enzymes, low HCL, or eating habits.  When we find and address the underlying cause of the symptoms, you no longer have heartburn.
HOW ARE THE GUT AND BRAIN CONNECTED AND CAN NUTRITIONAL THERAPY HELP?
We have more serotonin receptors in our gut than in our brain, 90% of serotonin is made in the gut. In fact, we have a whole line of neurons, nerves, and neurotransmitters along our entire digestive tract that communicate with our brain. We also have what's called the Vagus nerve at the base of our skull that travels down all the way to our gut. It tells our body to "rest and digest" when in a parasympathetic state. If we are not relaxed then our body is unable to digest and absorb nutrients. Nutritional Therapy (NT) gets to the bottom of your problem, whether it's sympathetic dominance, food allergies or sensitivities, or an over consumption of processed foods, by tailoring your diet and lifestyle to your needs. NT works to lower inflammation in the gut and if inflammation in the gut is lowered, then inflammation in the brain will be lowered as well. As our gut becomes healed, our brain gets the message and our moods are improved and energy levels are restored.
WHAT CAUSES INFLAMMATION?
Inflammation is our bodies defense against invaders. It arises from diseases and infections to food sensitivities and toxins. Even environmental factors such as stress, emotional distress, and lack of sleep can cause inflammation. Perhaps the biggest cause is from the intake of processed foods from the standard American diet (SAD). All of these factors increase cortisol which lead to a cascade of other problems. By taking control of of what is causing the inflammation, we are able to lower it, leading to improved moods, weight loss, and decreased insulin resistance.
HOW IS NUTRITIONAL THERAPY DIFFERENT THAN A DIET?
With NT, there is no one size fits all diet approach. Each NT plan is tailored to the individual. It is never meant to deprive or punish you in any way. Each plan works to decrease inflammation, heal the gut, and introduce foods that your body will feel its best on. NT is not a quick fix like most diets, it gets to the root cause and helps to develope positive lifestyle choices insuring that changes are long-term.
HOW DO I KNOW IF NUTRITIONAL THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Maybe you have heartburn, adrenal fatigue, headaches, gas bloating, extreme fatigue, irregular periods, weight gain, joint pain, or insomnia and just want to feel better. Or maybe you have tried every diet under the sun with little results. Nutritional Therapy is right for you if:
You are ready to make lasting changes to your health.
You are ready to understand what to eat and what your body needs to feel good.
You are done putting up with symptoms and you will not be defined by a diagnosis!
